University of Cambridge – LT3 Refurbishment

The project involves constructing additional laboratory space within an existing facility.  This requires the demolition of a lecture theatre, including the excavation of a raked concrete floor.  The 1st floor will then be constructed within this space, allowing the installation of M&E systems and fit out.  The works are to be completed to Home Office requirements.  The site is situated in the busy Downing Site in centralCambridge adjacent to operational departments, meaning that all works need to be undertaken quietly.

University of Cambridge – Kavli Institute of Cosmology

The scheme is a two storey 1000m2 building located close to the Hoyle and Astrophysics Buildings it will contain 55 new research workstations in a range of offices and also a seminar room. A BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating was achieved for the building in addition to achieving the necessary 10% renewables.

Physics of Medicine

University of Cambridge – Physics for Medicine

The scheme will occupy the northern side of the existing Cavendish Laboratory Campus in West Cambridge.  It will comprise primarily of experimental laboratories and support areas.  The main laboratory space is designed to be flexible and adaptable to accommodate physics, where vibration sensitive equipment is used, biological and chemical science and dedicated equipment rooms for NMRS and Tera Hertz. Support spaces for glass wash, autoclave and chemical storage are also provided.

System Biology Institute

Project including refurbishing c. 5,000sqm of existing highly serviced laboratory space, basement holding areas and ancillary accommodation across four floors for stem cell research to Home Office requirements.

Plant Growth Facility

University of Cambridge – Plant Growth Facility

The facility will provide a facility where healthy and pathogen infected plants can be separately grown in self-contained areas. It is a single storey, glulam arched structure. Essentially it is a large open plan hall for housing 32 specialist growth rooms with associated facilities such as soil storage/preparation, potting/harvesting and autoclaves.

University of Cambridge – Faculty of Education

To provide a new building for the Faculty of Education, including new car parking and landscaping works adjacent to the existing Homerton College.  The main building is arranged into two ‘houses’: the 3-storey ‘timber house’ to the north, containing principally the Learning Resource Centre, and the 4-storey ‘brick house’ to the south, containing teaching and academic space.

Triangle, St John’s College, University of Cambridge

The project involves the refurbishment of existing listed buildings to provide a series of interlinked properties for both commercial and College accommodation.  The scheme includes the demolition of a number of properties.  Most of the buildings were Grade II listed; some of which date back to the 18th Century.  As a result, significant repairs were required to the existing building structures and facades.

Silsoe Relocation Phase 2

Cranfield University – Silsoe Relocation Phase 2

This project involves constructing a combined Soil Management and Off Road Vehicle experimentation facility.  This project also involved three other packages. Procuring the relocation of all experimentation and teaching equipment; an enabling works package for the demolition and remediation of a disused fuel storage facility and a separate relocation of offices and soil archives into existing accommodation.

Coventry University – Engineering and Computing Building

A new landmark state of the art teaching and research facility for the Faculty of Engineering and Computing providing in excess of 14,300m2 of replacement mixed use accommodation, incorporating formally disparate items of specialist technical resources for the development of automotive, aero and computing engineering, including a 1/6th wind tunnel, engine test cells and three independent lecture theatres.

Student Enterprise Building

Coventry University – Student Enterprise Building

New student centre which will become the heart of the University campus.  The project presents many challenges, not least the large number of stakeholders / faculty departments that will occupy the building when it is completed.  Satisfactorily managing and balancing their broad and varied needs within the context of the University’s brief, key external stakeholders and the masterplan is critical to the project’s success.  In addition the project is on target to achieve a BREEAM – Excellent rating.
